Polymerization of ethylene:
PEROXAN BEC is used for high pressure polymerization of ethylene in both autoclave and tubular processes, usually in combination with other peroxides of varying degrees of activity.
Temperature range: 220 to 270°C
Light-off temperature at 2300 bar: 220°C
Polymerization of styrene:
PEROXAN BEC may be used in polymerization and copolymarization of styrene.
In a mass process PEROXAN BEC can be used to increase polymerization rates.
In suspension polymerization processes, PEROXAN BEC is often used for reduction of residual styrene content during the final polymerization stage. PEROXAN BEC is a benzene-free replacement of tert-Butyl peroxybenzoate (PEROXAN PB).
Temperature range: 100 to 130°C
Dosing: 0,02 to 0,1 phr
Polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates:
PEROXAN BEC can be used as initiator for the solution, bulk and suspension (co)polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates.
Temperature range: 90 to 130°C
Dosing: 0,1 to 1 phr
PEROXAN BEC is used for the curing of unsaturated polyester resins at high temperatures.
PEROXAN BEC is preferred for the curing of UP resin based hot press moulding formulations in the temperature range from 140° to 160°C.
PEROXAN BEC is often times used as "finishing" peroxide in combination with a high reactive peroxide like PEROXAN BCC or PEROXAN MI-60 KX as kicker in in formulations für pultrusion processes in the temperature range of 100° to 140°C.
PEROXAN BEC is recommended for the production of SMC/BMC parts. PEROXAN BEC gives a comparable amount of volatile decomposition products during the cure reaction as PEROXAN PB, tert-Butyl peroxybenzoate, however, without benzene.
Depending on application and working conditions, the following peroxide and when applicable cobalt accelerator dosage levels are recommended:
PEROXAN BEC: 1,0 to 2,0 phr
Crosslinking of EPDM, EPM, NBR:
PEROXAN BEC is used for crosslinking of elastomers.
Safe processing temperature (t2): 120°C
Typical crosslinking temperature (t90): 150 to 180°C
Dosing: 1-5 phr*
* depending on elastomer and degree of crosslinking
Crosslinking of EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate):
PEROXAN BEC is especially used for EVA encapsulated (crosslinkable) sheets for photovoltaic products (solar panel manufacture) .
Safe processing temperature (t2): 120°C (at 160°C < 5 min.)
Typical crosslinking temperature (t90): 160 to 180°C
Dosing: 1,5-2 phr*
* depending on elastomer and degree of crosslinking
The safe processing temperature t2 is defined as the temperature, at which the scorch time is longer than 20 minutes.
The typical crosslinking temperature t90 is defined as the temperature at which 90% of the crosslinks in the compound are formed within about 12 minutes.
